Saudis plan regional gas grid

Saudi Arabia is discussing the opportunities that would come with an interconnected natural gas grid in the Middle East region that would help export the Kingdom’s commodity to the UAE, Kuwait and Oman.

Saudi Arabia’s Energy Minister Khalid al-Falih was quoted by Gulf News as saying: “I am talking to my colleagues in Oman, Kuwait, UAE, about extending a gas grid in the region and we hope to exchange gas and we also have excess of gas which we will be exporting.”

The Kingdom is aiming to develop its natural gas industry and export more of it to its regional neighbours.

Significant gas reserves have been identified by Saudi Arabia, who plan to develop these in a bid to reduce its reliance on oil by 2030 and allow it to increase its crude exports.
