China supports FTSE 100

The FTSE 100 was up 0.224pc at 6,870.39 as a bit of good news from China helped distract investors’ minds off tonight’s crucial Brexit vote.

Brent crude surged 1.24pc at $59.72 amid news of a supply cut from OPEC and Russia, although gains were limited by darkening economic outlook.

Sterling slipped 0.2pc on the day to $1.2847 against the dollar as volatility levels spiked as the markets braced themselves for the result of parliaments vote on Theresa May’s Brexit deal.
