Miners weigh on FTSE 100

The FTSE 100 was down 0.813pc at 6,673.43 as investors remained focused on the wider global economy – specifically the slowdown in China and the continued uncertainty over the US Government budget.

The heavily weighted mining giants weigh on the UK index with losses in excess of 4pc across the industry’s biggest constituents.

Brent crude dropped 0.72pc at $53.41 as pressure from increasing OPEC output mounts and concerns that a global economic shutdown could weaken demand.

Sterling dropped half a percent to trade at $1.2689 against the dollar, partially reversing gains from earlier this week, as concerns over Brexit continue to weigh on the markets.
