Miners lead a steady FTSE 100

The FTSE 100 was steady at 7,066.14 following earlier gains as global stock rise following forecast beating US earnings, boosting Asian and European shares.

Global mining giants were amongst the few significant gains on the FTSE 100, led by Russian mining company Evraz – up 2.52pc.

International benchmark Brent crude dropped 0.29pc at $81.17, having picked up from yesterday’s lows based on industry data that showed a surprise fall in US inventories.

Sterling was trading 0.3pc lower against the dollar on Wednesday at $1.3150 after inflation fell by more than expected last month.
