Miners unaffected by a weak FTSE 100

The FTSE 100 was down 0.585pc at 7,731.12 as the pound picked up and proved the only other excitement on the markets during the morning session.

Miners were left largely unaffected by the drop in the FTSE 100 with Antofagasta up 2.08pc.

Brent crude was steady at $72.27 although confidence in demand has been hit by growing tensions in the China-US trade dispute.

Sterling was close to a one year low after it extended losses down to $1.2842 against the dollar as investors grew increasingly nervous over the prospect of a no deal Brexit.
