Norwegian oil and gas workers to strike

More than six hundred Norwegian offshore oil and gas rig workers will go on strike on Tuesday, after rejecting a wage deal previously out forward, impacting output of at least one field – Shell’s Knarr.

Shortly after the midnight deadline, mediator Carl Petter Martinsen said discussions between trade unions, Safe and YS, and the Shipowner’s Association had failed to reach a deal.

In a statement, Martinsen said: “The parties were so far apart from each other there was no point presenting a proposal that could be recommended to both sides.”

Approximately 670 workers will walk out on Tuesday with a further 901 set to take action on Sunday and a potential increase to up to 2,250 workers if the dispute is not resolved, according to Safe.
