“No plans” for BP to invest in Scottish renewables

Nick Wayth, head of BP’s alternative energy division, has said that the global energy giant has “no plans” to invest in the Scottish renewable sector, while answering questions on the social media platform Linkedin.

When asked during the session whether BP would be investing in North Sea renewables, he said: “While BP is one of the largest investors” it has no intentions “for a major alternative energy investment in Scotland”.

Wayth was taking part in a live Q&A session on BP’s future plans for alternative energies, which saw questions put forward by energy experts and members of the public.

The announcement comes as research from the University of Cambridge has found green energy could cost the global economy trillions of dollars.
