Markets begin to recover from last week’s losses

The FTSE 100 rose 1.26pc to 7,181.45 with mining giants leading the charge.

Anglo American, Glencore and Rio Tinto helped boost the FTSE 100, up 2.75pc, 2.76 and 2.42pc respectively.

Brent crude jumped 1.39pc to $63.66, helping the commodity to recover from last week’s steep losses following the steadied growth of global equities.

Sterling was up 0.3pc to £1.3863 after a weakening dollar helped the pound rebound from a three-week low after the EU’s chief Brexit negotiator suggested the proposed transitional deal was far from secured.
