FTSE 100 reaches record high

The FTSE 100 was up 0.09pc during midday trading but had fallen from a record high of 7,750.58, achieved in the morning session.

Brent crude up 0.6pc to $69.23 as OPEC cuts and healthy demand balanced the market, although analysts warn of possible overheating of wider oil market.

The sterling dipped below the £1.35 mark for first time in a week, down to $1.3493 against the dollar as investors secure profits after rally.

British industry set to boost UK economy in final quarter of 2017 as output rose by 0.4pc in November.
