Sterling slips in anticipation of Brexit talks

The FTSE 100 was up 0.35pc to 7,326.22, with Rio Tinto jumping 0.93% after the announcement of its new chairman, Simon Thompson.

Brent crude, the global benchmark, was down 0.75pc at $63.25 a barrel as the market looks beyond last week’s OPEC agreement, which saw cuts extended through to the end of next year.

Sterling slipped 0.4pc to $1.3431 against the dollar as investors awaited the outcome of Prime Minister Theresa May’s trip to Brussels, where she will hope to break the deadlock Brexit discussions.
