Renewables will create increased price volatility – energy market specialist

A leading energy market specialist has produced forecast data which shows energy prices, and the volatility of energy prices increasing as the share of renewables in the energy mix increases.

The data, processed by Berlin based, Energy Brainpool is from national targets and the World Energy Outlook 2016 from the IEA.

The data modelling shows that as the increase in share of the mix of wind and solar and the reduction of traditional sources of power such as coal and nuclear prices and volatility of prices also increase.

These findings back a report by the Nuclear Energy Agency which said that increased permeation of renewables would create increased volatility of prices.
